World
Emoji Day!!
@17th
July 2020…
No doubt, we all use our favorite emojis all the time in
our conversations, especially our WhatsApp conversations isn’t? We all have
that one emoji that we personally like and connect to. Every emoji has a
meaning and purpose to it, and I feel, rather than typing a long message for
happiness or sadness or when one is frustrated or any other kind of emotions
one is going through, an emoji speaks all, I think.
Emojis
have become an essential part of our expression while sending a text, or when
you chat with your friends, etc. It is the new messaging trend! Since a lot of
people found it as a better way of communication, Emojis have become a vital
one when it comes to digital marketing as well.
A human
brain recognizes Emojis as nonverbal information and so processed as emotions.
You will be surprised to know that these Emojis have the power even to change
the mood of the reader! Talking to a person directly will be easy for you to
show sarcasm, your emotions, the tone of voice, and even your facial expression.
But it is limited when you converse with a person via the internet.
Interpretation is vast when it
comes to communication in the 21st Century. For example, when you respond with
“Ok…” it appears that you are frustrated or feeling impatient. When you utilize
emojis and instead respond with “Ok… ๐” it causes less worry and more displays a true understanding
from the sender.
A happy emoji send by a friend or even an app will bring in some warmth and feel-good to the person who receives it. Who wouldn’t like to click on something that makes them feel good? This is where Emojis play a key role in push notification and is being used popularly. Emojis helps to trigger various emotions
in the human mind.
When we feel lazy or when we
are at a loss of words then we use emojis to express what we want to. For every
feeling, there is an emojis now. From the past years, emojis have evolved. It
not only expresses simple human feelings but more than that.
Let’s talk some history
on the same :)
The first emoji was created in
1999 by Shigetaka Kurita, an engineer working at a Japanese mobile operator,
NTT Docomo. He creates 176 emojis for the release of the Japanese mobile phone
operator NTT DoCoMo's integrated mobile internet service "i-mode",
debuting in February 1999. In Yahoo Messenger, the oldest 'mainstream' emoji
was used. In 2010, Unicode emoji was finally standardized. That is brands
like Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Twitter can start creating their own
versions of Emoji that would appear even if a message was sent from another
operating system. Let me tell you that Unicode 6.0 is the largest release of
emoji yet, consisting of 994 characters like emotions, a pile of poo, families,
hearts, animals, clothes, food, city images, clocks, and country flags.
In 2014, World Emoji Day was created by the founder of Emojipedia named Jeremy Burge. Each month Emojipedia serves over 25 million emoji lookups!
There are an infinite amount of options when it comes to emojis, and it seems to grow often. The next time you send an email or text message that is boring or mundane, do not be afraid to add a touch of emotion. When used correctly, it has the potential to turn an employee into a friend or a client into an everlasting partnership.
The Impact
of Emojis-
Psychological Impact
In face-to-face communications, people share empathy and create relationships through a phenomenon called Emotional Contagion, in which similar emotions and their corresponding behaviors are directly triggered by one person to the other. In digital communication, emoji serves the purpose of translating emotions to express facial expressions. Indeed, researchers found that the same sections of the brain are activated when an individual sees an emoji as when seeing real human facial expressions. As such, emoji solve the inability to express gestures and emotions by allowing users to communicate through a variety of picture characters to express opinions, feelings, and personalities.
Sociological Impact
In 2015, the Unicode Consortium introduced a range of emoji skin tone modifiers, giving users the ability to express diversity in many forms such as race, gender and ethnicity. The ability to express diversity through emoji is key in digital communication if people want to create confidential uniqueness and a sense of identity within a personal or business-related relationship.
So, if you want to send someone a message using
emoji to celebrate World Emoji Day, Emojipedia has plenty to choose from,
including six colors of raising hand emojis, five-party emojis and two
kinds of fireworks. Go try it out! ๐
