Have you ever put on your headphones, hit play on an upbeat tune, and waltzed down the street as if you were in a movie? You’re not alone, everybody has done it (they’re just too afraid to admit it!). Music has the ability to lift your spirits even when you don’t feel like getting out of bed that day. Why shouldn’t there be an entire day to celebrate the wonders of music? World Music Day needs to be celebrated far and wide without a doubt!

Who doesn’t like the beats of music? Who doesn’t like to listen to soulful music at times and when no one is around, the best companion with us is music right? Music truly is a way to get people along! Music for me touches hearts of people and brings out the true emotions within them! Sometimes, I do feel that music is a great reflection for us to self- reflect and self- realize ourselves on various aspects of our day to day habits isn’t?

Personally speaking, music is one of my greatest love! I am truly inclined towards music and whenever I feel low or not good with myself deep within, I always have something to hear and its music! I may not be a professional or may not be on my path of becoming a professional musician but, somehow, I do realize the importance of music in me and honestly, how it changes my mood instantly, I really have felt it!

Just a Glimpse of this very Special Day-

This day is celebrated to promote peace and spread goodwill through music. For the first time, this day was observed in 1982 in Paris as the Fête de la Musique and since then has become an international phenomenon holding the same set of principles for being celebrated. The day is held on the midsummer solstice (astronomical event that occurs twice each year as the Sun reaches its highest or lowest excursion relative to the celestial equator on the celestial sphere.) This day is celebrated across 460 cities in 110 countries that includes Germany, Italy, Egypt, Syria, Morocco, Australia, Vietnam, Congo, Cameroon, Mauritius, Fiji, Colombia, Chile, Nepal, Japan, etc.

Why Music in our lives these days is of paramount importance? Well, listing some of its benefits which may convince some people who are not inclined towards listening to a lot of music, so here I go!

·     Improves Mood-

Studies show that listening to music can benefit overall well-being, help regulate emotions and create happiness and relaxation in everyday life.

·     Reduces Stress-

Listening to ‘relaxing’ music (generally considered to have slow tempo, low pitch, and no lyrics) has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety in healthy people and in people undergoing medical procedures (e.g., surgery, dental, colonoscopy).

·     Lessens Anxiety

In studies of people with cancer, listening to music combined with standard care reduced anxiety compared to those who received standard care alone.

·     Improves Exercise-

Studies suggest that music can enhance aerobic exercise, boost        mental and physical stimulation, and increase overall performance.

·     Improves Memory-

Research has shown that the repetitive elements of rhythm and  melody help our brains form patterns that enhance memory. In a study of stroke survivors, listening to music helped them experience more verbal memory, less confusion, and better focused attention.

·     Eases Pain-

In studies of patients recovering from surgery, those who listened to music before, during, or after surgery had less pain and more overall satisfaction compared with patients who did not listen to music as part of their care.

What do you think? Music a Way of Life from Now?
