'Humility is the True Virtue.'
Humility- and everything!

What
exactly is Humility? Who would have taught us this better than the present
times of COVID 19?
The
mightiest and the biggest are now united for a purpose. All have understood
humility is the mightiest of all.
Humility
so far was described as a modest or low view of one's importance. To be humble,
one needs the genius of understanding the importance of both ourselves and the
person right next to us. I think, if someone is humble, we generally take that
for granted and move on in our daily life especially if we are in a
higher position or more skilled.
I
think humility is one of the most powerful and important attributes of training
and relevant for a holistic approach. Learning to become humble helps
build trust, which is the key to leadership development though may crush our
goals which sometimes are unrealistic as a leader. Being humble, we will
definitely believe in the grass-root level worker hence be realistic and
empathetic.
As
the revolutionary Nelson Mandela once said “The first thing is, to be
honest with yourself. You can never have an impact on society if you have not
changed yourself… Great peacemakers are all people of integrity, of honesty,
but humility.”
By
living a humble life, we can identify the areas of our life that need to be
worked upon. If our coach and mentor suggest changing a technique to aid our
performance, do we need to accept his advice? Only with humility and emotional
intelligence, we will allow advice like this to sink in.
To give
an example of a person who has always been humble and generous towards
mankind- Mother Teresa. She decided to take care of the sick, poor, and
dying. Her work in India inspired many and showed people how to make a real difference
in the world.
I would also like to quote something said by Guru
Nanak Dev Ji, (first Sikh Guru of Sikhism,) as I connect with him -
"The fruit of humility is intuitive
peace and pleasure. With Humility they continue to meditate on the Lord, the
Treasure of excellence. The God-conscious being is steeped in humility. One
whose heart is mercifully blessed with abiding humility; Sikhism deal
Humility as begging bowl before the god,"
Guru
Nanak Dev Ji, first
Guru of Sikhs.
Checklist to know our humility quotient
- Do you go red in the face if a junior tells you how to improve?
- Do you not go red but do not take other's opinions seriously?
- Did we as full Planet not take Mother Earth's humility seriously? Did that lead us here and is the new normal?
